‘A derby day to forget for Notts County’: Magpies player ratings in 3-1 defeat to Mansfield Town

Adam Collin: Has been a consistent performer this season but got into a horrible mess with Richard Duffy which led to the first goal. Rating: 4/10

Matt Tootle: Plenty of endeavour and had his hands full with Alex MacDonald, who was a constant danger for the Stags. Got forward well though. Rating: 5/10

Richard Duffy: Captain had an afternoon to forget as his weak header led to the first goal and then he scored an own goal. Shouldn’t detract from a fine start to the season. Rating: 4/10

Carl Dickinson: A tough afternoon at full-back and was constantly put under pressure throughout. Did score a late consolation, however. Rating: 5/10

Jorge Grant: Looked a threat when he got the ball but control let him down on a couple of occasions. Plenty of industry but couldn’t make a breakthrough. Rating: 5/10

Lewis Alessandra: Had Notts’ best chance in the first half when he drove over from 12 yards. There was plenty of industry but the game largely passed him by. Rating: 5/10

Shaun Brisley: Was the best of the back-four although that will be of little comfort to the former Carlisle defender. Rating: 5/10

Ryan Yates: Patrolled midfield with his usual intensity, but will be disappointed with some of his deliveries into the box. Rating: 5/10

Rob Milsom: Worked incredibly hard for the cause but like the rest of the team struggled to gain any momentum. Rating: 5/10

Jon Stead: Toiled away without much success and faced two extremely imposing centre-backs in Krystian Pearce and David Mirfin. Rating: 5/10

Jonathan Forte: Notts tried to utilise his pace by putting the ball in behind the Mansfield defence, but struggled. Did have an effort cleared off the line. Rating: 5/10

Subs

Terry Hawkridge (for Alessandra, 67): Came on at 3-0 and did show some nice touches, but the game was already lost. Rating: 5/10

Elliott Hewitt (for Duffy, 67): Came on at centre-back and fitted into the tempo of the game well. Not a bad cameo by any means. Rating: 5/10

Shola Ameobi (for Forte, 67): Great to see the return of the big striker following a hamstring injury and did his best to unsettle the Stags’ defence. Rating: 5/10

Not used: Pindroch, Smith, Hunt, Walker.
