Derby defeat to Mansfield Town ends Notts County’s long unbeaten run

Notts County’s proud 10-game unbeaten run came to end against Mansfield Town as two goals from Danny Rose helped seal a 3-1 derby win at the One Call Stadium.

Rose pounced on a weak header from Magpies captain Richard Duffy to guide the ball into an empty net as Steve Evans’ side toppled the league leaders before adding a second from close range.

Duffy’s own goal then complete the victory for the Stags on an afternoon to forget for the visitors.

It could have been a greater scoreline too, had Mansfield taken some good chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Kane Hemmings was guilty of volleying over when he had plenty of time to bring the ball down, while the striker also blazed over from a Krystian Pearce cross.

Notts did create a fine chance to take the lead before half-time when Lewis Alessandra blazed over from 12 yards, following some good work by Jorge Grant.

After Rose struck, Notts were denied an equaliser by a goal-line clearance from the excellent David Mirfin, who thwarted Jonathan Forte.

But Rose made the game safe for the Stags when he pounced from close range after Hemmings’ header was tipped onto the post by Adam Collin.

Notts attempted to get themselves back into the game but their horrendous record at the One Call Stadium continued as Duffy sliced Rose’s cross into his own net.

Magpies boss Kevin Nolan made a triple change in a bid to spark the most unlikeliest of comebacks, which saw the return of Shola Ameobi after injury.

While Carl Dickinson found the net in stoppage time it proved a mere consolation.
