‘It was a great feeling’ – Peter Shilton’s world record of 1,249 games equalled

Nottingham Forest legend Peter Shilton’s world record of 1,249 games has been equalled.

And Wisbech Town goalkeeper Paul Bastock, who has matched the former Reds and England No.1, said: “It was a great feeling.”

Bastock, 47, played in the 1,249th competitive club game of his career in midweek, as Wisbech played Sleaford Town in the United Counties League Premier Division.

And he has now set his sights on breaking Shilton’s record on Saturday when Wisbech tackle Thetford in the FA Vase.

“To be honest, it was a great feeling,” he said, after the match against Sleaford.

“But this one was all about getting through the game so I can beat the record on Saturday.

“I think then, with the occasion and everything going on, the emotion will come out at full time.

“But right now I’m just concentrating on getting another win.”
