‘Marinakis will soon be in his position’ – new Olympiacos chairman Giannis Moralis on Nottingham Forest owner’s situation in Greece

Olympiacos’ new chairman Giannis Moralis has spoken about Evangelos Marinakis’ situation in Greece, after the Nottingham Forest owner was charged with match-fixing offences in his homeland.

Marinakis stood down as Olympiacos chairman on Wednesday, insisting he is “certain” his innocence will eventually be proven, enabling him to return to his role with the Greek giants.

And Moralis, who is also the mayor of Piraeus and vice president of Olympiacos, also sounds confident Marinakis will be cleared of the charges he’s facing.

“This short time that Vangelis Marinakis will not be able to perform his duties as chairman (I) will be able to help in the smooth running without losing my duties as mayor of Piraeus, which is my first job,” he said in an interview with SDNA, translated into English.

“But I repeat that I also know the Olympiacos area very well so that I can be able to help those few months.

“It is an honourable position first.”

“I think that Vangelis Marinakis will soon be in his position and will perform his duties,” he added.
