‘No chance top-of-the-table Notts County will become complacent – not with Kevin Nolan in charge’ – Garry Birtles

There’s no chance Notts County will become complacent; not with someone like Kevin Nolan, with the career he’s had, in charge.

It won’t happen. Kevin won’t allow it to happen. And I don’t think the players will let it creep in either.

When I was a player and in that position, I couldn’t wait to get out on the pitch and keep playing games. You just wanted to beat everyone and make teams suffer.

Notts are on a terrific run at the minute – and a lot of that will be down to confidence.

To win 3-0 at Exeter City, who are second in the table, is a fantastic result.

It’s great to see them top of the League Two table.

And it’s great to see players like Jorge Grant doing well for them, and Ryan Yates, who are both on loan from Nottingham Forest.

They’re getting games; that’s what is making the difference.

When you’re at a club and you’re not playing, you can get down on yourself and sometimes don’t put your lot into training. It can all pass you by a bit.

That’s why it’s so important to go out on loan if you need to; go and try to prove a point. You’ve got to admire players who do that.

Kevin obviously saw something in Jorge and Ryan that could improve his team, and he seems to be getting the best out of them.
