‘No excuses’ for derby defeat, says Notts County boss Kevin Nolan

Kevin Nolan had “no excuses” for Notts County’s derby defeat to Mansfield Town as the Stags ended the Magpies’ proud 10-game unbeaten run.

Two goals from Danny Rose and an own goal from Richard Duffy did the damage against the league leaders, who suffered their first loss in the league since Coventry City on the opening day of the season.

Carl Dickinson’s late goal, his first for the club, was a mere consolation as the Stags maintained their impressive record against Notts.

Magpies boss Nolan was disappointed to see his table-toppers beaten by their rivals, but said he had no complaints with the scoreline.

“I thought they were the better side from start to finish,” he said.

Mansfield Town’s Danny Rose celebrates making it 2-0

“We just didn’t get going. We didn’t really handle their strengths. They played a lot of long balls and chased it down and we weren’t really on it.

“There are no excuses really because we’ve been beaten by the better side.

“You have to give credit to the opposition, but there were a lot of things we could have done better with a lot more efficiency.

“But I don’t think I can knock the lads’ attitude and application to the game. I just think they looked a bit sharper and they were buoyed by a good crowd.

“They wanted to beat the top of the table side. They’ve beaten us on one day.

Notts County players react as Mansfield Town’s Danny Rose celebrates making it 2-0

“We’ve had a fantastic run and it can’t take away from what we have achieved over this last week.

“Most Notts fans would have taken six points out of nine given this three-game week, and we have to respect that.

“We didn’t do a lot of things we normally do.”
