Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton starts as England U19s beat Iceland in dramatic fashion

Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton started as England Under-19s secured a dramatic European Championships qualifying win away to Iceland.

Brereton played for 66 minutes before being replaced by Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.

England had been frustrated to that point but they took the lead four minutes later through a brilliant free kick by Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Paul Simpson’s side looked set to win from there, but Iceland equalised thanks to Daniel Hafsteinsson in the 82nd minute.

England were undeterred though and went back in front within a minute through Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, who had scored four in the 6-0 win against the Faroe Islands – a game in which Brereton also scored.

England have secured their place in next March’s Elite Round and now head into their last match of the group with Bulgaria to play for top spot, with the hosts having also won both of their games.
