We have the squad to cope with Shola Ameobi’s absence insists Notts County boss Kevin Nolan


Kevin Nolan is hoping Shola Ameobi will be fit to face Cheltenham this weekend, but says Notts County have the squad to cope with his absence.

Ameobi sat out the 1-1 draw at Stevenage at the weekend because of what is believe to be a minor groin problem.

The former Newcastle forward had been in excellent form prior to his injury with the towering frontman leading the frontline brilliantly.

But Magpies boss Nolan says if the 36-year-old is absent, then Notts have plenty of options at their disposal as they prepare for the visit of the Robins.

Kevin Nolan is hoping Shola Ameobi will be fit this weekend.

“He’s done really well for us, but that’s why we have the squad we do in that if we do have these niggling injuries, we have people who can come in,” he said.

“I am hoping Shola isn’t going to be too long. We did the same with Dan Jones when he was injured that we have to make sure he is happy and we give him the genuine care that’s needed.

“He’s a top class pro and hopefully he is fit for this weekend, but, if not, then we have the squad to hopefully keep it going and working hard to get back to winning ways.”
