World Cup champions Germany have been drawn in Group F, alongside Mexico, Sweden and South Korea for the tournament in Russia.
However, in the build up to the draw, Joachim Low’s side went into full troll mode, toying with the idea of facing Chicago Fire next summer.
The reference to the MLS side was harking back to the embarrassing moment journalist Derek Henkle asked Bastian Schweinsteiger if he could win the World Cup with his new club.
And Germany were not about to let the reporter forget it, sharing a mock photo on Twitter of Pot 4 which included the American side.
“Less than four hours to go until the World Cup draw so let’s have a look at Pot 4 which features dome returnees and newcomers,” they tweeted.
Questioning Schweinsteiger at his Chicago Fire press conference in March, Henkle asked: “With your addition to this team, is it a fair expectation to see a clear pathway towards a World Cup competition come out of Chicago?”
When he didn’t receive a response from the former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder, he added: “Let me rephrase.
