Time is up
One Barcelona star has admitted that his time at the Camp Nou is coming to an end, sparking rumours of a potential transfer in the summer transfer window.
That player comes in the form of former Liverpool star Javier Mascherano who has now admitted the curtain is coming down on his Barcelona career.
This comes after seven years at the club having left Merseyside in 2010 for a fee in the region of £25million.
Since then, the Argentine has racked up a number of trophies and has become one of the most decorated players in world football.
Having only made 13 appearances this term, the defender is looking to go out at the right time, rather than his presence become ‘toxic’.
“I think that my stage here is ending,” he explained.
“It makes sense that after such a long time there’s not much more I can do in this club.”
“I’m not saying it with a heavy heart. I’ve had the best years of my career in this club. I’ll never forget it.”
“I’m one of those people that thinks that you have to know when is the right time to end a stage.”
“I would like to close mine (at Barcelona) at the right time but it doesn’t really depend on me.”
“I am predisposed to close it on time because when I left Liverpool it wasn’t good for me, and I didn’t like it.”
“I didn’t like having the feeling that I could go back to Liverpool and there was still something toxic there.”
“And I don’t want the same thing to happen to me at Barcelona.”
Barcelona target Chelsea star as Coutinho alternative
While Barcelona will no doubt have to plan for the departure of Mascherano, they are planning attacking moves.
That is because the club is now looking at alternatives to one of their top targets Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian is still expected to be of interest to Barcelona but they have now explored other avenues, including this Chelsea star.
