Niasse was hit with a two-game ban for diving to win a penalty against Crystal Palace earlier this month.
Celtic’s Scott Sinclair can consider himself extremely fortunate that he was not on the receiving end of a similar charge when he tumbled in the box in the Betfred Cup Final to win the spot-kick that helped the Hoops see off Motherwell and get their hands on the silverware.
What got to me was Sinclair’s manager and team-mates all leaping to his defence and saying it was a penalty.
They all stated there was contact. Yes, there was minimal contact from Cedric Kipre, but there was nowhere enough to send Sinclair to the deck.
I just wish there had been a bit of honesty from those in the Celtic ranks to admit they got lucky with the decision, just as they were when they won another penalty in round two with Motherwell on Wednesday night when Callum McGregor went down and Sinclair slotted it home to keep their unbeaten run going.
Would it have been so hard for those in green and white to say they got away with one there?
Celtic deserved to win the Betfred Cup, they were the better side, but they got lucky with the penalty and the red card for Kipre that killed the final stone…
