Kevin Nolan hails relationship between Notts County’s players and supporters as prices slashed for Oxford clash

Kevin Nolan has hailed the latest ticket promotion from Notts County owner Alan Hardy as the club prepare to host Oxford City in the FA Cup in front of the television cameras, and he believes there’s a relationship developing between the players and supporters.

Notts, who will look to progress to the third round for the first time since 2012, have slashed prices in a bid to get a bumper crowd at Meadow Lane, and boss Nolan wants 10,000 to come and back the Magpies in their quest for cup success.

“The promotion that Alan (Hardy) has done is absolutely brilliant and people are starting to put bums on seats, which is fantastic,” said Nolan.

“You’re now starting to see a rapport and relationship between the players and the fans.
They’re starting to get it, they know exactly how much it means.

“For me, it was one of the major things when I walked in I sensed wasn’t right. There was no camaraderie within the team, so if there’s no camaraderie in the team how can the supporters look and think ‘well, they’re all sticking together, so we need to stick with them’?

“It looked very disjointed but now you see when we win, you can see the delight on all the lads’ faces.

“The way they respect the fact the fans have turned out again, that they’re there until the last minute to see such another hectic end.

Alan Hardy has again cut ticket prices at Meadow Lane

“We’re now becoming the sort of team that can go right to the end (of games) and we’re not seeing too many supporters leave early.”

Adult fans can watch the 12.30pm kick-off against the non-league side for just £15, while those under seven will be admitted free, with other prices ranging from £1 to £10 – something that’s impressed the Magpies boss.

“It’s another brilliant promotion and we’re hoping that we can get more bums on seats. I think we’re above 5,000, let’s try and see if we can get closer to 10,000,” said Nolan.

“When they (the fans) come here, they don’t disappoint and we haven’t so far. Hopefully we’ll keep putting more bums on seats and they’ll keep cheering us on and we’ll continue to send them home happy.”
