Nottingham Forest’s Armand Traore ‘one of the best left-backs in the Championship’

Nottingham Forest possess one of the best left-backs – if not the best – in the Championship in Armand Traore, according to one man who knows a little bit about the position.

Danny Fox now sees his own future in the centre of defence, but has spent the best part of a decade plying his trade in the left-back spot in the top flights in England and Scotland and in the Championship.

And Fox is convinced fans will see the quality of former Arsenal and Juventus player Traore shine through this season.

Traore has already started more Championship games this season than he did throughout the whole of last season, although he was forced off in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burton Albion with a hamstring injury.

Armand Traore slides in for a challenge against Burton

“He is a top, top player,” said Fox. “He is top drawer.

“He is probably one of the best left-backs in the Championship – if not the best.

“He has so much ability and could play at a higher level still. I would rather he does that with us, rather than somebody else.

“He is very good defending one-on-one and there are not many full-backs who are quicker than him.

“Andre Wisdom is a quick lad and he breezed past him three or four times against Derby.”

Traore has recently spoken about his personal struggle with confidence during his career, but Fox feels his team-mate has been reaping the reward for finding some self-belief this season.

“There are a lot of footballers with a lack of self-belief; I’ve seen a lot of players who are great in training, but don’t perform on a Saturday,” he said.

“I think Armand has found some inner belief and having a full pre-season under his belt has helped. But so has being made to feel part of the squad and the manager really liking him and making him feel valued.

“All the players and staff value him and appreciate his quality.

“It is a pleasure to have him in the side and to play alongside him.”
