Nottingham Forest’s luckless loan signing Adam Federici is “not far away” from a return to training at Bournemouth, Cherries boss Eddie Howe has revealed.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper agreed to join the Reds on loan until January on transfer deadline day in the summer only to suffer a knee injury that needed surgery while on international duty with Australia.

It meant he never even set foot inside the City Ground – and his loan was rescinded.

It is unclear when he will be fit to return to action, but if he is fully recovered in time for the January transfer window he could be an option once again for Forest, who will revive their pursuit of a new goalkeeper in the new year to add competition to their goalkeeper ranks, with Jordan Smith the current No.1.
