Real Madrid are close to completing the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Atletico Bilbao.
The player has failed to reach an agreement with Athletic Club over a new contract and is excepted to leave in January.
Arrizabalaga has £17.85m release clause which Los Blancos are set to activate.
Bilbao have been locked in contract talks with Arrizabalaga for almost a year now.
The player has so far knocked back all offers made to him by the club.
The Basque Country are understood to have lost patience with the player and believe that he will leave the club.
The player currently has a release clause of £17.85m, according to reports.
This has meant that Madrid will not wait until the summer when he out of contract.
Instead, Los Blancos intend to pay his release clause in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper is considered to be one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in the world.
At his young age, he has already appeared for the Spanish national team, despite such strong competition for the jersey.
Arrizabalaga has made 12 La Liga appearances this season, keeping three clean sheets.
Kepa Arrizabalaga would be a tremendous signing. At 23 he’s basically equivalent to a 19-year-old winger. Elon Musk will be on Mars by the time he retires.
Ofc there’s still a risk since he hasn’t been a starter for Athletic for one full season. I think it’s a risk worth taking

Would take Kepa at Real Madrid with my eyes closed. Top top GK and he’s only 22.

Navas is 30, he’s getting old and starting to get injury prone. Kepa is 23 and getting him for €20m is a bargain. Let Kiko go in the winter and sell Keylor in the summer imo

MARCA: Madrid wants Kepa & willing to pay his €20m release clause. Both Real & the GK understand that the earlier he signs, the better. Athletic’s prefers this difficult situation be resolved quickly. He’s a doubt for the game against Los Blancos in San Mames on Saturday. pic.twitter.com/SueU00VD1x
