Mauricio Pochettino has jumped to the defence of midfielder duo Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.
The pair have struggled recently, as have Tottenham who have dropped into seventh place.
The Argentine believes that the player are simply fatigued due to a large amount of game time.
Tottenham’s tricky spell
Spurs have endured a tough run of result recently, having won just once in their last five matches.
In that time, Tottenham have suffered defeats at the hands of Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester City.
Subsequently dropping into seventh and 16 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Tottenham’s poor run has coincided with Alli and Eriksen’s dip in form, meaning that both have received criticism for their performances.
The 45-year-old claims that fatigue is the reasoning behind the pairs’ poor form.
Eriksen made 8 appearances for club and country over the duration of November, whilst Alli made 5.
“Christian Eriksen, maybe can be a little bit tired
But mentally more than physically because in the last international duty he played two amazing games.
He cannot rest, cannot stop and of course maybe he struggled a bit but his condition is fantastic, after every game the stats are unbelievable.
The other players I think not because Dele Alli was not involved in the first three Champions League games, we manage the rotation.
This is not the reason the team has struggled.”
The Argentine went on to add how happy he is with Dele Alli, despite his poor form.
“I’m so happy with him, he’s so young, he needs to find his balance but I am happy with him
It’s normal we expect so much from him because he’s talented.
We expect him to do unbelievable things every game.
Senior players struggle during 10 months to keep the performances, with Dele he is young.”
