There was a bumper fixture list across the Premier League this midweek, with Manchester City winning again (but only just) and most of their title rivals following suit, with the exception of Tottenham.

Tottenham are badly missing defender Toby Alderweireld – just like last season
1. Toby Alderweireld’s agent must be smirking at Tottenham’s troubles which have given him the upper hand in his efforts to negotiate a pay rise for the Belgian defender. Stijn Francis warned in September that his client deserved to have his £50,000-a-week deal brought into line with the other high earners at Spurs, and now has evidence of how valuable his man is. The 2-1 defeat at Leicester made it one win in five since Alderweireld collected the hamstring injury that will keep him out until after Christmas. Last season the club won just two of six when he was also missing.
