‘We need to stay strong’ – Andre Ayew charges West Ham United after Everton’s loss

The Hammers suffered a devastating defeat to the Toffees and the forward has advised them to move past the sour experience

Andre Ayew has charged West Ham United to ‘stay strong’ after suffering a humiliating 4-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park in Wednesday’s English top-flight encounter.

Wayne Rooney’s hat-trick coupled with Ashley Williams’ effort condemned David Moyes’ men to their eighth league defeat this season.

And the Ghana international who made his seventh league start this term has admonished the team to get over the defeat.

“There are no words. We came here with lots of determination to do something. We leave here with zero points and four goals conceded. It’s not normal,” Ayew told club website.

“We need to get back to work and try and get some points. We need to stay strong, be men, take responsibility and move forward.

“It’s not going to be easy, it will be difficult as we have tough games coming up. But we need to tune our mind and fight and try and get the maximum points that we can from those games.”

“We had an opportunity to come back to 2-1 and I think that would have maybe changed the game because we came out for the second half with a lot of determination,” he continued.

“It’s football. We came here with determination and our confidence was higher [after Leicester draw] than it was before, but we conceded two early goals.

“It’s been frustrating but we need to turn our season around.”

West Ham will be hoping to bounce back from the comprehensive defeat when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to confront Manchester City for their next English Premier League encounter on Sunday.
